Cousin Hunter Bear,
Don't forget the state was nearly included as Confederate had the State's Governor had his way. Intervention by federal troops ended up as the Missouri Massacre (May 1861). Currently, with a Black president in the White House, Missouri has again reverted to the GOP. However, in 1968, 11.39% (206,126) voted for third party, George Wallace. Moreover, Missouri voters went for Ross Perot: 22% (526,238) in 1992; and, 11.22% (242,114) in 1996.

Given the reactionary status of Missouri, I now understand why prominent Missouri leaders never say much - FEAR! Voting for Wallace was - and remains - a solid indication of pure ignorance and racism living in Missouri. Otherwise, I was amazed not to find Missouri covered by the Voting Rights Act of 1965, as amended. When considering Missouri's dismissive actions toward Native people - aside the normal, Western genocidal approach, there's not many positive examples of racial harmony or spiritual healing in righteous, Missourian Christian nation. - George
